Angela Chastain, PsyD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Angela Chastain is the Supervisor of Psychological Testing Services at Agor Behavioral Health Services, Inc. She is responsible for providing and supervising psychological evaluations to all ages. Her hope in conducting these evaluations is to aide in clarifying a psychiatric diagnosis, assist in treatment planning, assess the need for specialized education plans in the school setting, to determine an individual’s strengths and to guide an individual in recognizing his potential aspirations for the future.
Dr. Chastain approaches psychology with an optimistic frame of mind. Her belief is that if an individual truly desires change, it is certainly possible to make that change occur. Sometimes an individual simply needs the guidance of a behavioral health professional to motivate, encourage and support him or her throughout the process of seeking better opportunities in life. She emphasizes the need to “meet a person where he is at,” meaning, that she views each individual she encounters with an open, non-judgmental perspective and she is willing to accept a person for who he is and where he is going. She also values the gift of humor as she feels laughter can be healing in and of itself. Dr. Chastain brings enthusiasm, positive energy, creativity and a new perspective on hope to each experience she has with her clients.
Dr. Chastain began her career in psychology over 14 years ago in a forensic setting, initially treating adult male sex offenders and domestic violence offenders, and then to evaluating and treating juvenile offenders in a detention facility. Her experience with the adolescent population continued and expanded to include children, as she completed her pre and post-doctoral internships providing psychological testing, individual, family and group therapy to individuals ranging in age from 3-17 at a local community mental health center. Since she completed her doctoral degree, Dr. Chastain’s primary clientele had been pediatric; since joining Agor Behavioral Health Services, Inc., however, she has been granted the opportunity to work with clients of all ages, including the adult and senior populations.
She thoroughly enjoys interacting with all of her clients and thrives on an individual’s openness to healing. She also values any chance to incorporate family into a child’s treatment, which, she asserts, is the primary foundation of a child’s view of himself, the world and others. Dr. Chastain also has at least 10 years of experience in crisis intervention services as she has evaluated individuals, ranging in ages from 3 to geriatric, for psychiatric hospital admission based on a specific crisis.
Dr. Chastain completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her Master’s Degree and Doctor of Psychology Degree (PsyD) from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. She has an Adlerian foundation and often incorporates an Adlerian perspective into the treatment she provides. She also utilizes cognitive-behavioral, behavioral and solution-focused treatment interventions.
Dr. Chastain looks forward to being instrumental in guiding each and every one of her clients in being able to find hope and healing in their day-to-day lives and is confident in being able to promote positive change in those who are open and willing to seek all the good that life has to offer them.
