Virtual Therapy/Tele-Therapy FAQs
Agor Behavioral Health Services, Inc. offers Virtual Therapy Sessions, also known as Tele-Therapy sessions, for Illinois residents. Phone or video sessions are available. Tele-Therapy Sessions are a great option for those clients who struggle to make it in for regular office appointments, due to busy work schedules, commuting times, frequent business traveling, weather conditions, parenting demands, or health issues. Imagine receiving the benefits of regular therapy support from the comfort of your own home! Tele-Therapy allows the client to avoid taking time off of work for appointments, finding childcare, commuting to the office, and waiting in waiting rooms.
How does it work?
Contact information will be exchanged with the provider in advance of your scheduled appointment. The provider will contact you at your scheduled time, and sessions are structured the same way as in-person sessions. A plan to handle disconnected calls and crisis emergencies will be discussed at your first appointment.
The provider has a legal and ethical duty to ensure confidentiality on his/her end, so Tele-Therapy sessions are held in a secure and confidential office space. Clients’ records are also maintained with the same confidentiality safeguards as the records of clients who are seen in-person.
Are these real appointments?
Yes. In fact, recent research has shown that Tele-Therapy sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions for many presenting concerns. In addition, similar research found that some clients report feeling more comfortable and more open during Tele-Therapy sessions. While Tele-Therapy is not the right fit for everyone, many clients find they enjoy the benefits of being able to receive therapy support from just about anywhere, without having to commute to an office.
Providers often structure Tele-Therapy sessions in the same way as in-person sessions.
If at any point a client feels like the Tele-Therapy sessions are no longer a good fit, the provider will recommend a local therapist at Agor Behavioral Health Services, Inc., that he/she feels would be a good fit, so in-person sessions can be resumed.
Are both phone and video options available?
Yes, either option can be used, depending on the client’s comfort level and overall needs.
Does insurance cover the cost of these sessions?
Yes, insurance covers the cost of Tele-Therapy Sessions, just like regular in-person sessions. We have a system for collecting co-pays or cash payments as well.
Are there certain issues that are not appropriate for Tele-Therapy?
Yes. For example, those clients experiencing hallucinations or other psychotic symptoms, who are primarily struggling with drug or alcohol concerns, or who struggle with thoughts of harming self or others would be more appropriate for in-person therapy services. Our providers are trained to assess for this, and will make a local recommendation if that is necessary.
