Antonio J. Wheeler, Jr., LCSW, CADC
Antonio J. Wheeler Jr., is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor; he is a humble servant who facilitates the space for change and resilience. Antonio’s focus is to understand what has happened to individuals, empower them to reach self-actualization and sustain each person to be anchored in wellness.
Antonio believes therapy is not just for trauma; it is used to facilitate the safe space for clients to objectively strategize on how to optimize their purpose and how they show up in relation to their family, career and purpose. He encourages clients through resilience focused therapy and identifying how to use their life experiences as a source of empowerment and strength.
Some of Antonio’s most passionate work has provided resilience focused therapy to gunshot victims immediately following their injury. He believes that what has happened to you is not the totality of who you are. Therapy is about understanding how circumstances and life events have impacted you but may conflict with your purpose of who you want to be. Antonio is an avid reader, and his suggested readings are integrated in his approach on how he implements modalities. He focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a stronghold but believes that therapy based on the individual client needs will produce the desired results.
In 2009, Antonio began his professional career in the Mental Health field as a substance abuse counselor. In addition to being a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, he also provided counseling to perpetrators of domestic violence and those in need of anger management. Antonio achieved over 10,000 hours of direct therapy with individuals to master his craft; he has the experience to implement the right modality in relation to what works best for the individual client. His experience includes therapy for adolescents, adults and couples in the areas of counseling, substance abuse, domestic violence, self-actualization, resilience, life coaching, anxiety, depression and trauma.
